Nov 2, 2010 – Traveling back home to Kauai from Puerto Rico, after missing his round one and two heats due to illness, Andy Irons passes away during a layover in Dallas, Texas. He was reported to have been battling Dengue Fever.

Wow, what an unexpected tragedy, absolutely devastating. Andy Irons was such a monumental icon for surfing, it just doesn’t feel right for him not to be here. Please pray for his family and his pregnant wife, due with their first baby just next month. It’s a shocking reminder of how fragile life is, and I hope and pray that it causes us all to look up to heaven. Andy had a great comeback and it’s been really inspiring to see all the surf community, along with his peers, remembering him in the midst of this huge loss. RIP AI.
